January 2022 Reading Wrap-Up

Hello!

Despite traveling for a wedding, I actually was able to read a decent amount of books in January. As a kid, I used to despise January. It was the month where I took down my Christmas decorations and had to go back to school after spending winter break at home. Now at 25, I’ve found that it actually one of my favorite times of the year. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m getting older, or because my priorities have changed, but I think it’s a perfect time for a fresh start. I still got sad when I took down my tree and cute throw pillows, but the lingering winter blues didn’t last as long as they usually do. I decided to focus on my goals for the new year, and the exciting things to look forward in the coming months(hello warmer weather). As far as reading goes , the first book of 2022 was actually an audiobook! Within the last few months of 2021, I started listening to audiobooks much more. Before, I used to associate them with school and often got irritated at how slow the narrator was speaking. After discovering I can change the reading speed I started giving them another chance. In addition to the reading speed, I often forced myself to listen to long winded fantasy books over audio. After DNF book after book, I decided to change genres. Who would have thought I would love listening to a self-help book while I make my breakfast in the morning? Not only are they much shorter than fantasy books, but due to the often light-hearted content, I’m able to listen to them as I go about my day. If you are like me and have sworn off audiobooks for the reasons I mentioned, I suggest listening to a self-help book or even a book of your choice with a smaller amount of pages. This makes it easier to digest than a looming 13 plus hour book that is so dense you can’t focus on anything other than listening to it(definitely not for my ADHD brain). Back to the bookish content, I was able to read a combination of 6 physical and audiobooks this month. I have listed them in order of when I read them(according to Goodreads) and have included a star rating as well as links to a synopsis if you are interested in reading it. Due to my plans for in depth posts(and a podcast episode!) for some of these books I will refrain from including opinions about each. Make sure you’re subscribed to be the first to know when I post an update or publish a new episode on Books & Matcha. Without further ado, let’s get on to the list!
